| Armco Superlite was established as
a subsidiary of the American Rolling Mill Company, the
USA’s fourth largest steel producer, and is now a
wholly owned South African company which has been operating
in South Africa since the 1930’s.
Today Armco Superlite supplies many
of the world’s leading construction companies and
agencies that operate in Africa, Australasia and the
Far East, and exports most of the corrugated pipe produced
at it’s factory. Armco’s guardrail product
is so widely used in Southern Africa that it’s
name has become a generic for the product.
The factory is situated on a 3,6
hectare site in Isando near Johannesburg, South Africa,
close to major highways and an international airport.
It also has it’s own railway siding.
Armco Superlite is a company listed
in accordance with the SABS ISO 9001 Scheme. This internationally
accepted listing ensures the quality of all products that
leave our factory. Specific customer quality plans can
be catered for in our manufacturing process.
In April 1989 a 7.5m hot dip galvanizing
bath was commissioned, utilising 1600 square meter of covered
plant. The plant was designed to galvanize Armco products
but due to the size was also suitable for general galvanizing.
In October 1996 The galvanizing division expanded by commissioning
a 5 meter bath and two spinning lines at a second plant
in Dunswart. In December 1996 a 13.2 meter bath was installed
at the Isando premises in order to further expand the capabilities.
The Road Safety Products Division
was established in June 2002 due to a need being seen in
Southern Africa for more advanced safety technology in
road infrastructure. Armco Superlite acquired licences
to manufacture established products in this field. These
include SAFence, which is a product from Blue Systems which
Armco Superlite has developed together with the Danish
company BMM. Various other products are distributed and
manufactured in conjunction with Energy Absorption Systems
Inc. based in the USA.
